New kid on the block (Elliot) gets up close to the olive picking action …
….and then has a new tree planted in his honour.
This year’s crop has at last started to ripen (about a month later than last year) and some are now ready to pick.
Daughter Hayley over from the UK an hoping to harvest and press some olive oil before she returns is out of luck due to the late ripening this year, she has a good time inspecting the trees though.
The trees have been even more kind to us this year than previous years with an abundance of crop.
Last we had 66% of our trees flowering and 56% ended up producing olives, this 93% of our trees flowered and so far 80% are now growing olives.
We have some rabbits and hares living on the grove.
Some of the trees haver been pollinated and are showing new olives for next year’s harvest already
With all the blossom and new growth on the trees they could do with a little nutrient help so we have started laying some organic boron around the trees to help them with the task ahead. Gloves and masks are a must.
